The Fourth Day
Monday was a good day. I decided to stave off the headache by eating a small bowl (1/4 cup dry) of steel cut oatmeal with peach preserves. This kept me good and full for most of the day. I had tons of water and about 24 ounces of the lemonade. I had another apple, cheese and peanut butter for dinner. Tea at night. No salt water flush...too sleepy.
The Third Day
Clearly this cleanse has taken a turn in a different direction, but I feel like that's okay. Sunday wasn't bad at all. I anticipated getting a headache so I ate a sliced apple with cheese and peanut butter before work. I only deviated from this food = no headache plan once when a friend brought in homemade crepes. I mean who would pass that up? Nobody. Otherwise I continued drinking my lemonade and had tea that night. I've abandoned the salt water flush for the pure fact that I just don't want to get up an hour earlier. These are all things I'll consider when I do the Master Cleanse again closer to the Vegas trip.

The Second Day: FAIL
Well, it didn't take long. Epic failure was inevitable. However I am even more determined now. Have I no self control? No will power? Seems I don't. Here's what happened...
I was crusin', doing just fine at Brio, surrounded by delicious smells of really fattening food. It wasn't bothering me. I'd take a swig of the lemonade every time I thought about it. Well then the headache came. I'm prone to headaches when hungry or tense. And the thing is my stomach didn't feel hungry, it wasn't grumbling or hurting. My brain wasn't properly communicating and WHAM horrible incapacitating headache. Normally I pop 4 ibuprofen but its not advisable on a completely empty stomach so it was either sleep away the rest of the day or eat some food. I took it slow, eating two organic brown rice cakes (my favorite). Everything was fine so I ventured to Bar Louie for a salad. I resisted the very strong urge to drink. I did however eat two little crab cakes. I'm still standing, my intestines are still intact.
I realized that although this probably isn't the best method for my body I know it does work for other people. In any case where headaches are a result of hunger a liquid diet may not work. I really do want to stick it out for the whole seven days. Soooooo, last night I drank the tea (steeping it for a couple minutes) and this morning braved the salt water flush. This time however, I used luke warm water. This helps tremendously. I was able to get it all down in a short amount of time. Today is so far a success. I've been chugging water. Haven't had any lemonade yet.
I've been thinking about post-cleanse eating plans...I love the simplicity of a regimented diet plan. I know it helps me, although some people can't stand the idea of eating the same thing every single day. I think from April through May and until I leave for Vegas I'll stick to a strict plan of steel cut oatmeal in the morning (my favorite) with Celestial Seasonings antioxidant green tea, a protein shake for lunch and for dinner a salad and not just any salad, the Lauren special: romaine, red grapes, gala apple, pecans, carrots, dried cranberries, cantaloupe, and salmon with fat free french dressing. I'm a big believer in dessert so I'll hop between fat free pudding and a piece or two of dark chocolate.

Still here...
WOW so this isn't as horrible as I thought. I will admit I was super scared but I've proven that this cleanse is not impossible!
This morning I woke up thinking that I'd be chained to the bathroom because of the tea, but oh no, it's not the tea that gets you going its the salt water. After forcing down almost 32 ounces of salt water I waited... lo and behold it worked its magic. The extra time in the morning is necessary! Don't skimp on it!
Faced with an entire day of no food. Armed with a Nalgene full of this lemonade. Knowing that I'd work a full day at the full time job and then go almost straight to my soul sucking part time job I was not looking forward to any of it! Mostly because the only highlights of either job is when i get a break to munch on something. I was shocked though, not only does the lemonade taste good it actually keeps you full! I was not actually stomach grumbling hungry once during the day. At times I thought I should be eating but it was quickly put to the back of my mind.
Supplies! You can't have enough lemons. The juice goes so quickly. I would advise getting way more lemons than you think you need. Also I ended up going to Target and purchasing a PUR water filter, because it's not very thrifty to buy jug after jug of water. The trip was well worth it when I saw all the cute things Target has for their spring collection :) Best thinspiration of the day.
Drinking the senna tea before bed. See you on day two!

The First Day
I was too sleepy to wake up a whole hour early this morning to both work out and drink this salt water flush. Well now its after 8am and I am pissed. Salt water flush is just as horrible as it sounds. Straight up sea salt in 32 oz of water. Not nearly enough to disguise the fact that you've just agreed to put TWO teaspoons of salt in your body.
This is how much salt water you're looking at EVERY morning...
.jpg)
Upsetting I know. That is a tall drink of really unpleasant salt water. And something occurred to me. Whenever I'd gargle salt water as a child to help clear up an abscess in my mouth I was always told not to swallow it. Now all of a sudden I'm supposed to chug the stuff? I don't have time for this! Perhaps this is why I should have woken up early cause it'll take forever to drink this. Oh well, I'll keep shaking it up lest I get stuck with the Mediterranean Sea at the bottom of this bottle.

The Night Before
So as instructed I drank the senna tea before bed. I felt a little silly while pouring the water over a rather not so menacing tea bag. For some reason I envisioned this tea to come out looking like polyjuice potion from Harry Potter. I guess I figured regular tea couldn't possible have such extreme affects on the body. It tastes like that tea they serve at Chinese restaurants, with no sugar of course. Being determined to start off right I ate very light during the day, however I am completely stubborn and wanted chili. Now why on earth I thought it would be a good idea to eat chili of all things before drinking a tea that's basically a laxative is beyond me. I will surely pay for this in the morning. I just need to remember it's all for Vegas...
Morning after...the tea either has a very delayed reaction time or it just didn't work. The app said to only steep for 10-20 seconds the first time.

Prep
Alright. How many times have I said that I'd do the master cleanse? I bought the book (back in 2006), read someone's blog, ticked off the list of countless celebrities to embrace it but FINALLY it's time to do the damn thing. I made excuse after excuse and after years of procrastinating (I love procrastinating) I'm biting the bullet. The final push was actually finding an app in the App store on my IPhone :) This app is pretty nice. It gives detailed instructions and day by day tracking of progress.
The reasoning for this? Other than needing to cleanse my system of years of alcohol, Steak and Shake and whatever else I've tortured it with, its about Vegas. Las Vegas, Memorial Day weekend, an epic girls trip that's been a long time coming. I promised myself that I'd step off that plane at least 20lbs lighter and bust out a monokini at the Planet Hollywood pool.
Don't think I haven't been attempting to shed some pounds other ways. I took my Target obsession to a new level this year when I discovered the fitness aisle. I bought Tae Bo, Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred and her No More Trouble Zones along with some adorable baby blue weights and this creepy sweat band thing that goes around the waist and induces gross amounts of sweating. It's not enough, for me anyway. I need that push off the edge. Its like in high school swim gym when I was the LAST person to dive off the board and the teacher held up the entire class until I got the guts to jump.
So with my Sin City motivation and some technology to assist me its time to jump, and here it goes....
What We're Working With

I went to Whole Foods and stocked up on the supplies. The cute check out guy suggested that it's best to get a LOT of lemons because they don't make all that much juice. Out of a bag of about 10 lemons I got almost 2 cups of juice. But anywho, here is what you need.
The app (as I'll refer to the master cleanse guide app on my IPhone from here on out) said to drink the tea before bed the night before you start so I'll be posting again tonight!

- Non-Iodized Sea Salt (for the morning salt water flush, yummm)
- Cayenne Pepper :(
- Organic Lemons
- Grade B Maple Syrup (I figured Whole Foods was the best bet for getting some quality stuff that wasn't Aunt Jemima's. Be prepared to pay a little more because apparently the bad weather really damaged the maple syrup harvest, so they're charging more)
- Senna Tea (I had to search pretty hard for this in their vast tea aisle. I expected something to just say SENNA TEA but it does not. My cleanse app suggested two brands but Whole Foods is weird about brands but apparently The Republic of Tea has a whole line of teas with a purpose, which I thought was cool. This one is appropriately named Get It Going and does just that...)
